The Luís Patrão Scholarship Programme is an initiative by Turismo de Portugal aimed at promoting the academic, technical and executive training of young professionals at the start of their careers, in tribute to the Institute’s first President.
Within the framework of the Tourism Strategy 2035, the Programme serves as a public policy instrument focused on developing key skills for the sector, contributing to its competitiveness, innovation and sustainability.
By awarding scholarships for advanced studies and specialised training, the Programme seeks to enhance human capital and foster a new generation of leaders in tourism.

The Luís Patrão Scholarship Programme aims to support the qualification and specialisation of young professionals by promoting the development of skills in strategic areas such as management, economics, finance, tourism, innovation and sustainability. It also serves as a platform for building a network of highly qualified talent capable of contributing to the modernisation, internationalisation and competitiveness of the tourism sector.
The Programme is implemented through the awarding of 20 scholarships — 10 for advanced academic training at postgraduate, master’s and MBA level (Type A), and 10 for specialised professional training (Type B) — aimed at young individuals with diverse academic and professional backgrounds. This approach values the multidisciplinary nature of the sector and fosters the application of new knowledge, skills and innovative perspectives.
With a total budget of €1,000,000, the Luís Patrão Scholarship seeks to support a new generation of professionals who will think, innovate and lead the future of tourism in Portugal.
Objectives
Applicants must meet the following cumulative requirements:
Be aged 35 or under (by 31 December 2026)
Have effective residence in Portugal
Have their social security situation regularised
Have their tax situation regularised
Hold academic qualifications appropriate to the scholarship type:
Type A: Bachelor’s degree (level 6) with a minimum grade of 14/20 or admission to a master’s programme
Type B: Qualification at levels 4, 5 or 6 with a minimum grade of 14/20
Not accumulate the scholarship with other public funding for the same study/training plan
Ensure full availability to attend the study programme
Not eligible:
Employees or service providers of Turismo de Portugal
Their descendants
